My sewing room

My sewing room is a small, 10' ft by 10' ft room in our 180 year old house.  Two of the walls are solid brick and masonry, two wooden planks.  I painted my room a soft butter yellow to brighten it and thought white cabinetry would brighten things even more.  This wall unit that my husband made for me....have I mentioned he's wonderful?..... is fitted into my sewing room and painted white.  It is 8 feet tall and 8 feet wide (there is a chimney to the right of it).   I love it!  It took no time to fill !

I think I'll keep him.

Standing chimney is a rustic shop in Mount Jackson, Pennsylvania.  The owners focus on selling items made locally by artisans of many types.  The shop is open the first Saturday of each month and every Saturday through November  for the holiday season.  Tea and coffee as well as samples of the baking and dip mixes are available for your tasting pleasure. Fresh bread, cinnamon rolls, scones, dinner rolls and muffins can be purchased.   In the fall, mums, pumpkins, bales of straw and corn are available for decoration.  Last but not least, my aprons, of which you can see at http://www.etsy.com/shop/Kip65 . All this and so much more!  Enjoy the tour !

New and Exciting Sewing!

So glad to be back to my blog.  I've had some rough waters to sail in the past year, but God has had mercy on me and here I am again in fine form! Earl has completed a beautiful wall unit for my sewing room to keep me organized and more productive.  I'll be sharing pictures of that soon.

Over the last few years I've been sewing aprons for a local shop and have been encouraged to try new and exciting sewing projects.  Table topper and coaster sets, unique childrens and adult aprons, shopping bags, and shooting vests for IDPA and Sporting Clays.  I'll soon be posting photos and possibly tutorials for my new patterns for shooting vests.

I hope to post photos of the local shop, Standing Chimney, that I sew items for.  It is a charming country shop on in and out of the way location that folks have really warmed up to!  Baked goods, pottery, woodworking, coffees, teas, baking mixes for breads, muffins, scones, and so much more !!

Back to the regular grind.....

It's been a hectic year and I really didn't get much sewing done for the menfolk here. At least, not as much as I would have liked! But I have a PLAN! Each month this year I am going to sew at least one project for Christmas. I want to fill the space under our tree with things made by Mom for my Husband and wonderful sons ! You can see the plan at www.yearofchristmas.blogspot.com and join us if you like. I'll be back to post the items I sew for the men in my life as the months progress.

1750s Surtout Coat 5

I arranged a fitting with my historical friend and found a few things that needed attention. The arm scye was a bit small, so I added this gusset to it. The neckline needed dropped about 1 1/2 inches in the front and the shoulders needed brought in. It's difficult to show the second two adjustments in photos, so you'll just have to take my word for it that it's done. LOL
